Gottfried Liebniz or Isaac Newton? Who do you believe is the true father of Calculus?
Creating applets in Geogebra is as easy as uploading your work to GeogebraTube. Once you save your work to GeogebraTube (using your free account), you can embed your applet using the HTML embed code provided by the GeogebraTube site. Love this interactive site! Every math teacher should be using this!
Why do I love Educreations for use in the classroom? So many reasons! Educreations is a web-based collection of teacher-created lessons. How do those teachers create those lessons you ask? Well, if you are lucky enough to have an iPad, you can download the Educreations app (for FREE). The iPad app allows you, the teacher, to record everything you say and everything you write/draw on the iPad. It then saves what you created as a lesson. You can make lessons available publicly or keep them private for your own use. The app allows you to draw in 4 colors and you can import images (like the one on the left) from the web to aid in illustrating your lesson. When you finish your lesson, the lessons are saved to a .url on educreations site. You can then share the link with others, or play it back (just like a video) in the classroom.
If you don't own an iPad, you can still use the lessons created by other teachers by searching the Educreations library of lessons. There are some really great lessons. I've used these as tutorials for students, in-class demonstrations, or as bell work. I've even used them for lesson supports when I had to be absent and had a substitute play the lessons for my classes. Some students said it was like I was in the room even though I was absent. How awesome is that? Give I spent a lot of time on www.prezi.com trying to upload a word document last week. It turns out you can't upload a word doc, however, you can turn your word document into a .pdf file and upload the .pdf file to prezi. Prezi also allows you to separate multiple pages of your .pdf document into separate frames. Pretty cool stuff.
I'm going to be blogging about my experiences implementing technology tools in the classroom this year. My first teacher-in-service day starts tomorrow. My district is implementing a new gradebook system, new method for evaluating teachers, and has changed our email addresses across the district. I'm looking forward to testing out new technologies i
